The Rajasthan High Court has ruled that candidates applying for the Sub Inspector (SI) recruitment in 2025 will not receive an age relaxation exceeding three years. This decision follows an appeal from the state government against a prior order from a single bench, which had instructed the government to consider extending the age limit for candidates beyond this threshold within eight weeks.
During the hearing, the bench led by Acting Chief Justice S.P. Sharma noted the government’s stance that it has already provided the maximum permissible age relaxation of three years. The government emphasized that any further extension is not feasible. The Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) has announced that it will recruit for 1,015 positions, with the examination scheduled for April 5, 2026.
The government’s appeal criticized the single bench’s comments, asserting that the court had made incorrect observations regarding the political pressures faced by the government from influential caste groups. The single bench had previously suggested that such pressures were hindering the government’s decision-making process.
Furthermore, the petitioners argued that a cabinet sub-committee formed during the SI recruitment of 2021 had recommended age relaxations for candidates in the upcoming 2025 recruitment. They pointed out that the Rajasthan Police Service Rules of 1989 include provisions for age relaxation, but the government has not implemented this beyond the three-year limit, leaving many candidates ineligible despite the extended timeline since the last recruitment.
