A tragic incident in Bhilwara has resulted in the death of a nine-month-old infant due to superstitious practices. The child, Govind, was experiencing cold symptoms and breathing difficulties when his family decided to consult a local healer, known as a ‘bhopa.’ According to local police, on Tuesday afternoon, the family took the infant to the healer, who used a hot iron rod to perform a traditional treatment known as ‘dham lagana.’
Following this treatment, the child’s condition worsened. The family returned home but, as Govind’s health deteriorated further, they admitted him to Mahatma Gandhi Hospital on Thursday. Hospital staff quickly recognized the severity of his condition and began treatment. Unfortunately, after three days in the hospital, Govind passed away late Saturday night.
Police have confirmed that a case has been registered against the healer for his actions. Kailash Bishnoi, the officer in charge of the local police station, stated that the investigation is ongoing. The Chief Medical Officer, Arun Gaur, reported that the child was suffering from pneumonia and emphasized that such traditional practices do not cure pneumonia and can exacerbate the situation, leading to further complications.
The incident highlights the dangers of relying on superstitious practices for medical treatment, especially in critical health situations.
