In Pratapgarh, Rajasthan, farmers are reminded to insure their kharif crops by the deadline of July 31 to benefit from the Prime Minister’s Crop Insurance Scheme and the revamped Weather-Based Crop Insurance Scheme. These initiatives aim to provide financial support and promote self-reliance among farmers by compensating them in case of crop losses.
The Agriculture Insurance Company of India Limited has been authorized to handle crop insurance in the district. The kharif crops eligible for insurance include soybean, maize, urad, as well as commercial crops like cotton and groundnut.
Farmers are required to pay a premium of 2% for kharif crops, while the premium rates for rabi crops stand at 1.5% and for commercial crops at 5%. Both indebted and non-indebted farmers must complete the insurance process by the end of July to ensure they are covered.
