The administration of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Jodhpur has undergone a significant leadership change. Dr. Mahesh Devanani has been removed from his position as the Superintendent of the hospital. In his place, Dr. Abhishek Bhardwaj, the head of the Dermatology department, has been assigned additional responsibilities as the acting superintendent.
This administrative shift follows a previous controversy involving Dr. Devanani and former Union Minister P.P. Chaudhary. Reports indicate that Dr. Devanani had submitted his resignation approximately three months ago, which was not accepted at that time. However, his removal has now been confirmed, with Wednesday marked as his last working day at the institute.
The conflict reportedly arose when P.P. Chaudhary’s wife sought treatment at AIIMS on August 14. Dr. Devanani allegedly denied her a free examination, citing procedural issues, which led to a confrontation between him and the former minister later that day. Following this incident, AIIMS administration circulated a memo on August 20, reminding all Heads of Departments and doctors to treat visiting parliament members and their families with appropriate courtesy.
The AIIMS administration has characterized this leadership change as a routine administrative adjustment.
