The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has conducted searches at multiple properties linked to Rati Ram Meena, an Assistant Commissioner of Customs, revealing significant undisclosed wealth. According to sources, properties in Jaipur and Ahmedabad, including luxury items and cash, were uncovered during the operation.
The CBI’s investigation began following suspicions about Meena’s financial activities during his tenure at the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) office. Reports indicate that the agency found properties worth over ₹8 crore, including gold biscuits valued at ₹2 crore and cash amounting to ₹85 lakh in a bank locker. Additionally, three shops in upscale areas of Ahmedabad were registered under his wife’s name.
Meena, who has served in the CGST for nearly seven years, received a salary of approximately ₹1.08 crore during this period. However, the CBI has identified investments and assets totaling over ₹3.57 crore, raising questions about the sources of this wealth. Before 2018, Meena’s total assets were estimated at ₹52 lakh, which dramatically increased within the last seven years.
The CBI’s findings also include various investments in fixed deposits, mutual funds, and real estate. The agency is currently investigating the legitimacy of these assets and the financial transactions associated with them. The inquiry is expected to continue as the CBI seeks to ascertain the origins of the wealth discovered during the raids.
